Aug. 3, 2021: Taiwan Further Bolsters Bilateral Cooperation on Judicial Cooperation in Criminal Matters with Slovakia

    Taiwan signed a judicial pact with Slovakia. The ceremony took place on August 3, 2021 in Taipei and the Justice Minister Tsai Ching-hsiang（蔡清祥） joined with the Foreign Minister Joseph Wu （吳釗燮） and Slovak Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei Representative Martin Podstavek to announce the signing of the Arrangement between Taiwan and Slovakia on Judicial Cooperation in Criminal Matters — the sixth such agreement to be inked with a European country, following the five other European countries: Germany, the U.K., Poland, Denmark, and Switzerland. The deal took four years to complete.

    This event was witnessed remotely by Ambassador Lee Nan-Yang of Taipei Representative Office, Bratislava, Dr. Michal Kotlárik, Director-General of Ministry of Justice of Slovakia, and Dr. Peter Osuský, Chair of the Slovakia-Taiwan Parliamentary Group and Vice-chairman of Foreign Affairs Committee of National Council of the Slovak Republic.

    This Arrangement, underscoring Taiwan’s commitment to working with like-minded partners in combating transnational crime, will see the two sides share practical experience on law enforcement, cooperate on extraditing criminals, and enhance mutual legal assistance. We can expect even closer and stronger cooperation between Taiwan and Slovakia down the line.
