The case prosecutor and the police actively conduct the search since the Taiwan authority received a report from the victim’s father and filed a mutual legal assistance request on March 16 and April 26 this year. However, no response comes from Hong Kong.

Taiwan Shilin Prosecutors Office considers that there are still many unanswered questions about the motive, criminal intent, and detail of the crime and no response from Hong Kong regarding the request for mutual legal assistance. Besides that, the victim’s father fears that the suspect could not be charged in Hong Kong and begged for justice several times. Therefore, Taiwan Shilin District Prosecutors Office filed a request to surrender the offender with Hong Kong via MOJ. MOJ forwarded it to the Mainland Affairs Council Republic of China (Taiwan) in the fastest way.

MOJ has an open and positive attitude toward providing legal assistance. Although the Department of Justice (DOJ) from Hong Kong didn’t obey the relevant rules of mutual legal assistance to file a legal assistance request with the Taiwan Shilin District Prosecutors Office, the case prosecutor still provided information pertinent to DOJ. Afterward, if the Hong Kong government needs any help from MOJ, MOJ will provide assistance based on the principle of reciprocity as soon as possible. MOJ expects that the Hong Kong government could value this case, provide relevant service and surrender the offender to Taiwan to face the trial. We look forward to finding out the truth of this case and putting the criminal into justice.
